The Lord Has Need of You

Have you ever seen those ads, the one about the army calling people to serve? Something like Uncle Sam has need of you!  I remember the finger pointing towards the viewer and well I went searching and found an image that lines up with my memory.  Perhaps you remember too.

This call, while not insignificant, is still not as great a calling as the one we have been given.  There is a call indeed to fill the vacant spots of another army.  It is a calling from the Lord.  He calls us to be soldiers, in His army.  He Himself is the commander of this army and into battle we go.  We go knowing that victory is at the end. We win.

I got up this morning with these thoughts, God needs me in this season, in this moment, in this minute, in this second.  The Lord has need of me.

Jesus when He was twelve went with his earthly parents to celebrate the Feast of the Passover in Jerusalem.  They were a days journey out and realized that Jesus was not with them as they were returning home.  Three days later they found Him.  In Luke chapter 2 the scene is described for us:
48 So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously.”
49 And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” 50 But they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them.

They didn't understand this at the time and some of us don't understand this statement today.  We do not understand the business of our Father. We don't know what He wants from us.  We don't know what would compel Jesus at twelve to sit in the temple for three days listening and speaking.  we don't know what God expects from us.  We cant explain what God needs or worse yet, we cant see why he would even need us.

Rev. Charles Spurgeon in his message dated back to 1857 indicated that there was an undivided consecration to the will of the Father.  The word must suggests that there is "...something in me which prevents me from doing other work. I feel an all-controlling, overwhelming influence which constrains me at all times and in every place to be about my Father's business; the spirit of high, holy, entire, sincere, determined consecration in heart to God."  He goes on to explain that Jesus had in Him a spirit of obedience. He was also compelled by the  sacred calling.  Spurgeon says "He had a sacred call to the work which he had undertaken, and that secret call forced him on."

The Lord has need of you and I  even if it may seem that no one understands. That call to serve Him must be our only motivation.  We must be tunnelled vision to His purpose.  We must be intentional and resistant to the plans the enemy has to derail, distract and ultimately destroy the purpose God has for our lives.

Great you say.  I am in!  Sign me up for the next thing, whatever that may be.  Actually, what does He require of me?  I am so glad you asked.  I have been asking that very thing for a while now.  God what do you need me to do?  What is my purpose?  What is my sacred calling?

Well, in searching I found what someone has termed the Micah mandate.  It leaves no one out but this requirement is for every man woman and child of God.  The how may look differently as we are not carbon copies of each other.  However, the end result will be the same being about the Father's business compelled by a must that that over takes us as we serve Him.  The bible says in Micah 6:8:

He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you Except to be just, and to love [and to diligently practice] kindness (compassion), And to walk humbly with your God [setting aside any overblown sense of importance or self-righteousness]?

But he’s already made it plain how to live, what to do, what God is looking for in men and women. It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, And don’t take yourself too seriously— take God seriously.

I will say it again, the Lord has need of you.  You too are useful and not expected to do any of this on your own.  Look at the apostles and the disciples of the early church.  They ministered often times together.  It was an individual commitment but a team effort to bring about God's mandate.  Paul, in the latter part of his ministry said to Timothy (2 Tim 4:9-11)

"9 Do your best to come to me quickly, 10 for Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia. 11 Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, because he is helpful to me in my ministry."

There is a place for you in the ministry of The King of Kings. He doesn't have to but He chooses to use you and I as instruments in His hands.  He doesn't treat us as disposable garbage but valuable and worthy of His son's blood and scourging.  The Lord has need of you. Will you say yes?

The Lord Restores

God said, "I love you."  You replied, "Really?  How have you loved us?" Malachi 1:2 (MSG)

I read this and was paused.  God said I love you.  I started thinking about the theme I was to speak on The Lord Restores and realized that what He is after is relationship.  Ours with Him.  He wants to put life back into a relationship that has been dead and dry.  He wants to renovate, revive, renew, restore us to Him.  Why?  He loves us.

This message from the messenger Malachi was the last one for hundreds of years to the chosen people.  God didn't hold back.  He told them that they were giving Him shoddy, sloppy, defiling worship.  The altar of God was no longer important, worship of God was no longer a priority.  God was not hiding the truth, instead in spite of this there was grace extended...get on your knees he says and pray for His graciousness.

The Lord restores.  He wants us to return to the altar.  He wants us to return to Him.

I have sung the words but the transference to my life has been non-existent.  You deserve the glory and the honor...Lord I lift my hands in worship...I magnify your name.  We sing, I have sung, but where is the honor?  Where is the glory?  God says even Fathers have been given honor but where is His?

I know that God loves us.
I know that He cares for us
I know that the Lord restores us

Lord help us; Lord help me.
I have been giving you the scraps of my life.
I have given you the after thought version of worship.
Lord, I can't pretend.  I can't hide the truth from you.
This sloppy shoddy worship is not what You deserve.
As the song writer says and I have sung it again and again
You deserve the glory and all the honor
Thank you for restoring me unto You

Jesus Loves EVEN Me

Today is Saturday.  I am sitting in my family room with family.  My grandson is pushing around his red tractor and red train on his car mat.  My grand-mother is sitting on the sofa watching a movie that I don't think she can hear.  I am in my favorite green chair right by the window as the sunlight is shining through.  I have just had coffee sweetened with condensed milk which was more like dessert before breakfast.  Today my friends, is a good day.

It was good before all of this happened.  I woke up early to join my sisters in Christ on the prayer line.  Bonnie, the lead for Saturdays, brought us the wrap up on the weeks devotion theme of Just For Me.  She reminded us of a song from many yesterdays ago that says

I am so glad
Jesus loves me
Jesus loves me
Jesus loves me

I am so glad
Jesus loves me
Jesus loves even me

Jesus loves even me.  The unexpected me.  The wow how could it be me.  The mess of a person me.  Jesus loves even me.  I don't know about you but I am like the song write and am so so glad that He does.  1 John 4:19 says "We love Him because He first loved us".

He took that first step towards us before the foundation of the world.  He was the first responder on the scene of the wreckage that was our lives.  He loved us while we were sinners and not looking for Him.  He loved us.  He loves us.  Jesus loves even me.

Faith keeper

Faithkeeper. Do you throw away things that have great value to you, sentimental or monetary? Chances are you do all to preserve that thing. You ensure it is not damaged or stolen. You keep it safe. You invest your heart. You are prepared to fight for it. You keep it. I say all this to bring the point of faithkeeper to light. If we value our Faith we will keep it.

How then do we keep our faith?  How do we ensure that we are walking in a manner deserving of the title Faithkeeper?  I'm glad you asked.

Here is what I have discovered.  We must choose the way of faith.  David in Psalm 119 tells us of his choice to choose this way of faithfulness. Other versions call this the way of Truth or Obedience.  Whatever it is called in your bible, it is highlighting for us that this is not going to be something God does for us.  No beloved, we have to choose this way for ourselves. For some of you, and for me, this certainly makes it harder.  I would have loved to just have this be an automatic part of my Christian walk.  God never did like robotic worship so this absolutely makes sense.  Choose this day who you will serve.  Choose first life or death. Choose the way, the truth and the life for yourself.

I know that this choice will be challenged.  Once you decide to follow Jesus, the way of Faith, it will not be easy.  Interestingly enough, David understood this for himself as well.  So he repented.  He pleaded for understanding of God's way of doing things.  He knew his tendency to cleave to the dust, the deadness of this world, and so he cried out for help.  He needed GOD.

I think we all need God and we realize that pretty quickly along the way of faith.  I can't do this alone.  I can't stay on the path alone.  I am not strong enough and I don't understand enough.  So what's a girl or boy to do? How can we keep our ways pure?  We stay in the WORD of God.  David again in that same chapter revealed to us this is the answer.  He added that we should hide the WORD in our hearts so that we will not sin against God.

So Faithkeeper, arise today.  Cleave to God; He is your answer and your compass in Jesus name!  Be blessed.
